2018 A great year at the Garden
For me summer days are tied to hot white sands and welcoming cool blue seas, yummy cherries and the delicious taste and aromas of summer fruits and veggies. Here in Alice there’s a strong desire to hide inside from the mid-day sun but much to enjoy outside in the cool of the mornings and the early evenings in shaded garden areas. Unfortunately our plants can’t retreat inside but shade cloth is their next best thing. Fortunately our Garden watering system provides our soils with life preserving moisture for those tough times and mulch and plenty of organic humus help too! We can’t have it all in Alice but our Community Garden can continue to be a refreshing haven for many, not only us humans.
On behalf of our committee I’d like to thank and congratulate all our plot holders and Garden Friends for a great combined effort and result again this year. We’ve shared so very many wonderfully diverse, colourful and productive gardens, which taken all together have been ‘amazing’!
Our working bees have provided a great opportunity for many new members, most notably a wonderful group of young people, to learn, to ‘own’ and to contribute to the growth and productivity of the Garden. It’s so rewarding and sustaining to spread the joy and skills of successful community gardening. To those of you who have managed a Sunday morning or two or many, thank you! We’ll have no more than three more formal Sunday bees before taking a break for a month or so. If you haven’t made it yet, try making it once this year and then again next year! There’s enough chip mulch to spread for ten! Thanks Kevin!
On Friday 30th November we’ll hold our Annual Garden Meeting and end of year celebration, commencing 5pm. Please come along.
More news on the AGM will follow shortly as well as some ideas about management of the Garden and plots over the summer holidays when we’d assume many plot holders will be away. If you are going to be around and would be prepared to take on a Garden guardianship role, big or small, please email me at email@example.com Similarly if you would like to see your produce picked and eaten whilst you are away let us know - don't let it go to waste.
